About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior International Trade Compliance Specialist to lead and support our client's global trade compliance operations. This role is critical to ensuring regulatory requirements are met, risk exposure is minimized, and operations run efficiently in an evolving global trade landscape, including in response to changing tariffs and geopolitical developments. This position reports to the Compliance Director and works cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Legal, Regulatory Affairs, and Commercial teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with U.S. and international import/export laws, including EAR, ITAR, OFAC, and other applicable regulations
- Monitor and interpret changes in trade regulations, tariffs, and trade programs (e.g., Section 301, USMCA, FTAs) and advise the business on necessary actions
- Conduct internal audits, risk assessments, and compliance reviews; develop and track corrective actions
Tariff Classification & Trade Controls
- Review and assign Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and ECCN classifications for products globally
- Manage country of origin determination and valuation for import/export documentation
- Maintain accurate records to support preferential trade programs and duty drawback
Operational Execution
- Oversee day-to-day trade operations, including customs entries, export documentation, and licensing
- Partner with brokers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics (3PL) providers to ensure timely and compliant movement of goods
- Resolve customs holds, border delays, and supply chain disruptions related to trade issues
Training, Systems & Collaboration
- Develop and deliver trade compliance training to relevant stakeholders across the organization
- Support the implementation and optimization of trade compliance modules within ERP or trade management systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of compliance into business practices
Qualifications:
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Law, or related field
- Minimum of 6–8 years of experience in global trade compliance, preferably in the life sciences, medical device, or manufacturing industry
- Strong understanding of U.S. import/export regulations and tariff regimes
Preferred qualifications:
- In-depth knowledge of HTS classification, ECCN determination, and country of origin rules
- Experience managing broker relationships and customs processes
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and trade tools (GTS, Amber Road, Integration Point, Descartes)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Excellent communication, documentation, and project management skills
