In this role you will be embedded in a dynamic and trusted R&D tax firm with over 30 years of experience working within the sector. You will utilise your software knowledge and already strong understanding of the R&D tax process to assist the firm’s expansive retinue of valued client with their software claims.
As a member of their team, you will have the opportunity to further expand your knowledge of R&D tax as you work with experienced and knowledgeable professionals who have built a reputation in the industry for exceptional technical knowledge and professionalism. You will be responsible for handling their client’s software claims.
Their R&D Tax Department is supported by specialist former HMRC Inspectors who review every claim to ensure their compliance with HMRC legislation. The ex-HMRC QA team will also fully support and defend claims in the event of an enquiry.
Key responsibilities
- Prior to meeting with the client, research their business in-depth in order to provide value upon engagement.
- Advise clients on eligibility of R&D projects, qualifying activities, and guidance affecting R&D projects.
- Help the client to identify qualifying R&D through effective questioning to understand the technical uncertainties and the trial-and-error processes as well as the solutions considered outside of the box.
- Produce technical reports which accurately explains the client's R&D activities
- Maintain and build excellent relationships with the client's technical software teams
- Provide support in the defence of HMRC enquiries
- Liaise and work with the internal QA team to achieve their approval of the R&D project descriptions
- Support the development of internal processes and technical training
- Support the sales and marketing team through conducting technical qualification calls with prospects, supporting the creation of your sector expertise related marketing content, maintaining key referral partner relationships.

The Role
Using their unique approach, you will be matched with a dedicated Chartered Tax Advisor or Accountant. The R&D team will remotely liaise, or travel to the client's site, you will prepare the technical element of the claim, (the financial advisor producing the financial report), as well as handling technical emails after the initial brief.
We expect that your knowledge of the R&D tax regime and experience to be top rate already, but they offer development opportunities via regular training sessions delivered by an exceptional support team.
As their clients are spread nationwide your location isn’t critical as long as you have access to transport hubs and accept that some jobs will require travel to the client site nationally. When not on client-site the rest of your duties can be conducted from home, giving fantastic flexibility.
