Senior Legal Counsel

  • , France

About the company & role

A well-established software and consulting company is currently seeking a Senior Legal Counsel to take regional responsibility of a broad range of corporate and commercial legal work.

Reporting into and supporting the Global General Counsel this role will take primary ownership of legal work relating to France (the role will also support additional jurisdictions including Spain). Working directly and closely with the senior business stakeholders in France and Spain, the role will cover all key legal areas including complex commercial contracts (including complex licensing agreements), regulatory compliance including data privacy considerations and intellectual property. It will also support on other legal areas as per business needs including litigation, employment etc.

This role is based at their new office in Paris (other locations are available but some travel will be required to the Paris office as this is where some of the key business stakeholders are located).

What’s on offer?

As this is a newly created position, there is opportunity to help shape and develop how the legal function operates in these jurisdictions (as well as supporting more junior members of the wider legal team). The role will also be supported by an experienced and well-regarded General Counsel but has significant autonomy from day one due to the regional responsibility.

This is an ideal role for someone with experience in the French market looking to broaden their expertise multi-jurisdictionally or someone in a larger team structure looking to step up and take ownership at country level. This would also suit existing Senior Counsels who enjoy the operational side of a legal role and want to be very hands on with complex commercial legal work.

A provisional budget of up to €120,000 + bonus (circa 5-10%) has been set.

About you

To be successful in the role, you will need to already have significant experience working with complex commercial contracts (likely including licensing agreements, this could have been gained from a broad range of sectors, not just from software).

For guidance purposes only, you are likely to have at least 7/8+ years of post-qualified experience as a juriste/avocat or European lawyer. (Lawyers qualified outside of France with at least 4/5+ years in the French market are encouraged to apply – we are unable to sponsor for this position so you must already have full right to work in France).

Above all, this company is dynamic and fast paced and the position will suit those with a commercial mindset who are willing to both push and be pushed by business stakeholders to navigate and balance legal issues with commercial goals and objectives.

The role requires native/fluent French language skills as well as advanced/business-level English. Additional languages, especially Spanish, are highly desirable.
