Leonid is privileged to be instructed and retained on a search, on behalf of one of the world’s leading mining and manufacturing businesses. They’re seeking to hire a Senior Director, Risk to lead the creation and implementation of Enterprise Risk Management practices globally.

Reporting directly to the Global Chief Risk Officer, you’ll be leading a global mining and manufacturing giant as they implement global risk policies across all their international offices and supply chains – embedding a robust ERM program.

Additionally, whilst building a new team of risk management professionals, you’ll be providing strategic direction to our insurance team - with specialist teams spanning across claims management, policy placement, and renewals.

The Role
 
Enterprise Risk Management
  • Review and maintain the Company’s Enterprise Risk Management framework and identify potential areas for improvement. 
  • Design and implement a structure that ensures that appropriate groups or individuals are responsible for risk monitoring and mitigation in each area. Provide training and coaching to risk owners to improve their ability to assess, monitor, and mitigate risks effectively.
  • Partner with business unit and corporate function leaders, including ethics & compliance, the legal department and internal audit, to identify, assess and manage risks that could impact the business’ ability to achieve its strategic objectives.
  • Facilitate risk assessments for new country entry, acquisitions and joint ventures, and new product development, and support proper business continuity and emergency management response processes.
  • Ensure that business continuity plans are appropriately scoped to the risks they are intended to mitigate and supports emergency management response processes.
  • Partner with Internal Audit to test controls for the Company’s most significant risks.
  • Support the Chief Risk Officer with risk-related reporting to the Executive Leadership Teams and the Board, providing insights and recommendations to improve risk management practices and performance.
  • Support and work with senior figures in the company's insurance program, including claims management, policy placement, and renewals.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of insurance policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Stay abreast of market trends and emerging risks to ensure the company's insurance program remains up to date.
  • Partner with other functions, such as legal and finance, to ensure effective management of risk factors.
The Candidate
  • 10-15 years of risk management experience, with a track record of successfully leading risk management programs in large, complex organizations.
  • Master's degree or equivalent in risk management, management or business studies, finance or economics, science, statistics, engineering or law
  • Advanced knowledge of effective risk management practices (e.g., COSO) and related regulatory requirements and expectations.
  • RIMS, IRM or other risk management certification
  • Previous experience managing or supporting insurance and business continuity programs (preferable)
  • Dynamic, proactive, and decisive.
  • Adapts well to and initiates change in the organization.
  • Seeks ways to optimize risks in the organization as a competitive business advantage.
  • Highly developed communications, team player, change agent, strategic and creative, excellent project management skills, and the ability to drive performance.
