R&D Tax Financial Consultant
About the Role
This is a pivotal opportunity for an experienced R&D Tax Financial Consultant to help innovative, fast-growing businesses unlock government funding for their technical projects. You’ll work directly with founders, finance leads, and senior stakeholders, translating complex development work into compliant and compelling R&D tax claims.
The role is diverse, you’ll combine hands-on financial preparation with client-facing advisory work, supporting a portfolio of ambitious, forward-thinking companies working on emerging technologies and advanced engineering solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed and accurate R&D tax claims, analysing financial transactions and allocating qualifying costs in line with HMRC guidance.

Maintain a deep understanding of R&D tax legislation and eligibility across SME, RDEC, and merged regimes.

Liaise with HMRC and external stakeholders to ensure smooth and compliant claim progression.

Manage a portfolio of clients, building long-term, trusted relationships and delivering high-quality service.

Support senior team members with R&D tax planning, client advisory, and technical reviews.

Identify opportunities for improvement in client processes and internal claim quality.

Keep up to date with legislative changes and best practice to maintain high technical standards.

Prepare and file CT600 and CT600L amendments where required.
Requirements

CTA, ATT, or CCAB qualified (or qualified by experience).

3-5 years’ experience in R&D tax consultancy or within a professional services/accountancy environment.

Solid technical understanding of R&D tax relief, including the CIRD guidelines.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical detail clearly and confidently.

Organised and self-motivated, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Collaborative approach with a willingness to share knowledge and support team development.

A genuine interest in innovative businesses and emerging technologies.
Desirable
-
Experience managing HMRC R&D tax enquiries or compliance checks.

Familiarity with Xero, QuickBooks, TaxCalc, or similar tools.

Experience supporting start-ups or scale-ups.
