APAC Trade Compliance Officer

This is an exciting opportunity to join a global oil & gas field services company as the leader of the Trade Compliance function for the APAC region. This person would have responsibility for all aspects of the trade compliance programme, including, but not limited to, sanctions, export control, training, investigations, Certificate of Origins, and FTAs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manages and executes global trade compliance legal strategy for Asia Pacific region.
  • Leads, monitors, and supervises internal trade compliance investigations and implementation of accompanying remediation and discipline.
  • Advises on areas of trade compliance vulnerability and risks through formal training as well as day-to-day advice and counsel.
  • Assists with the execution of trade compliance due diligence procedures relating to proposed third-party intermediaries, vendors, joint ventures, and M&A.
  • Monitors external developments in trade compliance, including laws/regulations, government investigations, and industry best practices.
  • Participates in trade compliance related projects, as needed.
  • Understands and complies with all safety rules and company policies of our client.
  • Performs various other and activities as assigned by supervisor within the physical constraints of the job.
 

SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE

  • Excellent sense of humor, teamwork/interpersonal skills.
  • Expert knowledge of US export and sanctions regulations. 
  • Ability to interpret non-US trade regulations as needed.
  • Significant knowledge of customs regulations strongly preferred. 
  • Expert English language communication skills (both oral and written).
  • Expert ability to write investigation reports, disclosures, and internal memos in English with minimal coaching or editing.
  • Excellent organizational skills and presentation skills. Experience presenting to senior leaders.
  • Ability to handle sensitive, confidential matters and exercise sound discretion and judgment.
  • Capable of working independently, assuming significant responsibility, and being a self-starter.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of individuals in addressing complex issues.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Preferably a law degree from an accredited law school and active law license. Ability to practice law in APAC. If not a legal background, a degree from a relevant field.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of ethics & compliance experience.
  • Compliance experience in the oilfield service industry and prior project experience, strongly preferred.
  • Multilingual ability is a strong preference.
