Senior Customs & Compliance Manager

Location: Amsterdam, the Netherlands

 

Our client is one of the largest companies in the world that operates in nearly 100 jurisdictions, with 150,000+ employees and over $100bn in annual revenue. They are currently building their trade & customs compliance operations across the EMEA region.

 

As Senior Customs & Compliance Manager you will play a key role within our Global Trade Compliance (GTC) function by driving standards of customs compliance across a wide and diverse customer and stakeholder base. You will utilize their deep customs expertise to perform complex customs activities, which will include developing customs solutions; preparing advice; resolving legal disputes and audits. You will work as part of a dynamic team, leveraging talents of more junior customs advisory team members and cooperate with other customs managers and trade operations leads to manage compliance with corporate targets and objectives, promoting consistency in global use of customs sensitive data.

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Manage customs advisory services by closely partnering with business unit/functions, global trade operations and compliance, and other customs advisory leads to set strategy, plan for and design methods that mitigate risks associated with customs operations;
  • Collaborate with GTC regional leaders: customs advisory leads, Compliance and operations lead, tax managers and other corporate functions to help the EMEA advisory leader develop, define and implement regional and global customs strategies and projects;
  • Provide expertise thought leadership in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.
  • Manage part of Customs Advisory group through strong focus on people/talent development by counselling, coaching and identifying most efficient work execution
  • Advise on the development of processes and data requirements for customs/financial/compliance related systems;
  • Standardize trade compliance processes and data to align with strategies set out by trade technology and strategy lead.

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience;
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional customs experience;
  • Minimum of 6 years of related work experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Very strong communication skills with focus on functional and business stakeholders;
  • Very high leadership skills, ability to manage and develop team;
  • Competence leading/overseeing high-impact customs compliance; High customs knowledge.
  • Experience implementing internal controls, risk assessments and internal audits;
  • Demonstrated customs compliance experience within the food industry;
  • Experience with a Big four accounting firm, major law firm or multinational company;
  • Fluent English and Dutch;
  • SAP, global trade services or other customs system experience;
  • Professional certification and/or equivalent experience;
