About the company & role
This client will consider applicants based in Lisbon in addition to London.
An established European private equity firm is seeking an Assistant Company Secretary to join its Operations team in London. With offices across Europe and Bermuda, the organisation partners with ambitious businesses across the technology, consumer, education and business services sectors, with more than €16 billion in assets under management.
Working closely with the Company Secretary and wider Compliance and Operations teams, you will support the effective management of the group's corporate governance framework, with responsibility for coordinating board and committee administration and maintaining corporate records across multiple international jurisdictions. You will play an important role in ensuring governance processes run smoothly, supporting senior stakeholders and liaising with external corporate service providers across the group's international structure.
This is a varied, hands-on position offering excellent exposure to senior stakeholders and the inner workings of an international private equity business. From coordinating board meetings, preparing agendas and producing minutes to maintaining corporate records, tracking governance actions and liaising with local company secretarial providers, you'll become an integral part of the governance function.
What's on offer?
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your company secretarial experience within an established and growing European private equity firm. You'll gain exposure to a broad range of corporate governance activities across multiple jurisdictions, supporting the administration of group entities, funds and special purpose vehicles.
Working closely with the Company Secretary and senior management, you'll have the opportunity to develop your board and committee administration experience, build relationships with external advisers and gain valuable insight into the governance of a sophisticated international investment business.
The role offers a particularly interesting opportunity for someone looking to progress their company secretarial career within private equity, with exposure to entities across the UK, Luxembourg, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Bermuda.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have approximately 3 - 5 years' experience in company secretarial, corporate governance, compliance or legal administration, ideally within a financial services or professional services environment. Experience working within an alternative asset manager or private equity business would be particularly advantageous.
You'll have experience supporting board and committee administration, including preparing meeting agendas and packs, producing minutes, maintaining corporate records and following up on governance actions. Exposure to international entity management and working with external corporate service providers would also be beneficial.
The successful candidate will be highly organised, proactive and detail-oriented, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. You'll be comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders, handling confidential information with discretion and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The ability to identify key points from discussions and translate these into clear, concise written minutes will be particularly important.
A part-qualified Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) qualification, or someone actively working towards the qualification, would be preferred for UK-based applicants. Familiarity with governance platforms such as Diligent Boards would also be advantageous.
