How Leonid is helping organisations prepare for mandatory human rights due diligence

January 2024 is going to be a time of big change for large organisations’ management of supply chain due diligence and human rights, with new legislation – Mandatory Human Rights Due Diligence (MHRDD) – affecting thousands of businesses across the globe.

With the acceleration of these changes, we witnessed a marked increase in demand from our clients, to assist in their search for a human rights leadership role.

In response, we formalised Leonid’s offering to include a new team, focused on recruiting for this crucial area of corporate governance.

The team is headed up by Adam Bond, who is passionate about the topic of human rights and in helping global organisations to find the best talent to prepare themselves for MHRDD.

Who is affected by this legislation?

New legislation is already underway in a number of EU countries, with Germany leading the way. Under Germany’s Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG), it is already mandatory – for any company internationally with more than 3,000 employees in Germany - to employ a Human Rights leader and to demonstrate full compliance with the Act. As of January 2024, this will change to 1,000 employees, thereby bringing over 2,900 companies into scope.

This is only the start – the EU is making plans to take Germany’s example and extend it to all EU countries with its Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D), which is currently making its way through the European Parliaments. Other countries across the globe are also preparing for big changes.
